410 kilometres along the sites of the Reformation

The Luther Trail in Saxony-Anhalt exists since 2008. Hikers, cyclists and pilgrims can set out on  the 410 kilometre long trail between Wittenberg and Eisleben. The Luther Way makes it possible to explore Martin Luther's life. It leads from Luther's childhood in Eisleben and Mansfeld to his most important place of work in Wittenberg. On the way, 34 stations help to understand the life and work of the Reformer.

To walk a new path in order to find oneself again

Numerous Protestant churches invite to visit and to meditate. Large city churches as well as small village chapels offer the space and opportunity to rest and pray in contemplative silence. On the Luther Way, one can follow the idea of pilgrimage: to walk a new path in order to find oneself again.

A stylised "L" points the way for the travellers. The trail has been brought to life by the Lutheran churches, the tourism associations, the Climbing and Rambling Club in Saxony-Anhalt, and the farmer Wolf von Bila from Wohlsdorf. It is a contribution to "Luther 2017 - 500th Anniversary of the Reformation”.

Planned extension into other states

The Luther Trail is currently expanded into the other two “Luther states” Thuringia and Saxony. The trail from Stollberg (Saxony-Anhalt) to Nordhausen (Thuringia) has already been opened. In Eastern Thuringia, a connection to the planed Luther Way in Saxony will be made near Altenburg.
