When we talk about freedom today, in the theme year 2011 of the Luther Decade with the topic "Reformation and Freedom", is it the same freedom as that of Martin Luther?

Luther Today – Statements about religious freedom
It was an inspirational idea of Reformation to perceive a person's value as rooted only in his or her acknowledgement by God – independent from one's position in society, wealth or religious "achievements". In the future, the Luther Decade, the countdown project for the Reformation anniversary in 2017, will have a new motto. "In the beginning was the Word" is the headline for the institutions of the church and the state, which has now been presented in Berlin.

Women move the church – since Luther's time
Women were soon enthusiastic about the ideas of the Reformation. For them, the priesthood of all who were baptised became the basis and justification for becoming active in the movement. A new online archive for the works of the artist Lucas Cranach enables to take totally new looks at the works of the "painter of the Reformation". Users can zoom into paintings almost down to the pigment level and see details that can not be perceived with the bare eye in the museum.

The Evangelical Church has dedicated the theme year 2012 to music. A "relay course" of concerts will connect parishes from Berchtesgaden to Flensburg. At the start, critical remarks have been made as well.
